GP Services
Service overview
Australian family doctors are General Practitioners (GPs) and specialised in their own right. A general practitioner is trained to treat the whole person and can take care of people of any age, from any background, with any medical issue. An overview of what our GPs offer at our medical facilities can be found below.
General practitioners tend to focus on preventative health, and are, therefore, in the best position to give advice regarding staying healthy. Before they become medical practitioners, general practitioners have to train and undergo formal education for 10-15 years.
All of our GPs have completed training in general practice. They are highly skilled and knowledgeable in handling all health-related issues that you may encounter during your lifetime. Since your general practitioner gets to know you, your family, and your community, they can tailor care to suit you.
Usually, your general practitioner is your first point of contact when you have a health issue. A general practitioner will advise you whether further treatment is necessary. You may be referred to a specialist in a particular medical area or to other health care providers if needed. Without a referral from your GP, you won’t be eligible for a Medicare rebate if you see a specialist. The healthcare team your GP coordinates on your behalf will assist you if you need to see several GPs.
